Ukhozi FM Station Manager Bonga Mpanza says that the station will continue supporting and nurturing the talent displayed by rural communities in promoting their indigenous language through art and music. The station has been honoured at the traditional-award ceremony hosted by the Umkhanyakude District Municipality in northern KwaZulu-Natal.

The awards are presented by a local organisation "Sakhisizwe” a Zulu word meaning "We build the nation", in a bid to develop local talent as well as to draw the youth into sport and art.

Mpanza says the station will no doubt be part of the growing concept of developing rural communities.

“We started really following and working with Sakhisizwe from last year at a rural area of Umkhanyakude.”

The Sakhisizwe Awards were launched thirteen years ago. Many traditional musical groups that won awards have since been honoured by recording companies in the music industry.

Mayor Bethwell Mthethwa also received an award for being the best Mayor for service delivery.

Meanwhile,  Jozini Local Municipality has won the award for the best performing municipality in Umkhanyakude.

The municipality's Mayor Bethwell Mthethwa also received an award for being the best Mayor for service delivery.

Mthethwa says he will continue to work hard despite some challenges. He says he is also happy that his municipality has just been given a clean audit.
