Workers have escaped unharmed when two shoe warehouses caught fire in the industrial area of Isipingo south of Durban.

Metro police spokesperson Eugene Msomi says the fire started in one of the shoe warehouses before it spread to the next building.

He says the extent of the damage is not yet clear.

The building that was on fire was on Rana road in Isiphingo. The road was then closed to traffic when the second building caught fire.

Msomi says the fire escalated quickly and extra firefighters had to be called in.
