Motorists will be paying 25 cents less for a litre of both grades of petrol from Tuesday at midnight.

The price of diesel will drop by 23 cents a litre and that of illuminating paraffin by 22 cents a litre.

While the price of 95 octane petrol will fall by 25 cents or 1.8 % to R13.54 per litre in the commercial hub of Gauteng province, while diesel will go down by 23 cents or 1.9 % to 1157 rand or litre, the Department said in a statement.

In May, there was a negative impact towards businesses as petrol prices increased, said CEO of the South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Alan Mukoki.

The Energy Department says the decrease is due to a drop in international fuel prices and the rand's appreciation against the dollar in the period under review.
