Striking Lonmin mineworkers are marching to one of the neighbouring shafts at Marikana to confront those who have reported for duty this morning.
They gathered next to the hill at Nkaneng informal settlement earlier to get a brief from their leaders before the march. The miners are those who have defied an order by Lonmin to return to work this morning.
Those who attended the funeral services of their colleagues at the weekend in the Eastern Cape and Lesotho arrived this morning and immediately joined the march. Police are watching closely.
More than a thousand miners, singing and chanting holding sticks and spears, are marching to the eastern plant of Lonmin mine to demand those who are on duty, to join the strike.
The miners are still adamant with the R12 500 salary wage hike and they have vowed not to return to work, until Lonmin adheres to their demand.
Meanwhile, the South African Council of Churches is currently in a meeting with delegation of miners at a local church in Wonderkop before resuming wage negotiations at Rustenburg Civic Center later today.
