Fire-fighters have managed to extinguish the fire which has destroyed a retail store in Pretoria West. Tshwane Emergency Services spokesperson, Johan Pieterse says they struggled to extinguish the fire because of water problems.

Pieterse says the Trends building's roof was damaged and the goods in the building were destroyed by the blaze. He says no one was inside the building when the fire started and the cause of the fire will be investigated by the police.

"The main problem we had at the scene was water shortage. The fire hydraulics only gave us one bar, and we needed about 8 to 10 bars. But we sent fire fighters in, we worked with about 4-sectors in this building, about 10 000 squares in total, unfortunately I think that we lost the building due to the water supply that was not enough. Without water we cannot extinguish any fire. What burned inside was material, clothing’s, plastics. No injuries reported," says Pieterse.
