Tourism Minister Tokozile Xasa believes South Africa's culture and heritage will increasingly become a draw card for international visitors to the country.

She was speaking at a walk-through of an outdoor mural dedicated to celebrated artist Ester Mahlangu in New York City.

The art piece forms part of a broader collaboration between South African Tourism and Citi Bike that will see the decoration of bike stations throughout the city while serving as a promotional tool for potential tourists to South Africa.
Xasa says the United States is a key market.

“This is one of our key source markets, US, where we have steady growth over the years, we received more 350-thousand visitors in 2016 only, so it indicates to us that we are on track and this is one of our markets where we have to intensify, because in the next five years we targeting to receive more than 5 million visitors into SA, 4 million international and one million on domestic tourism, so for us the importance here is how then, this partnership with Citi Biki through our SA Tourism office can begin to expose what more SA offers.”
