ANC veteran and anti-apartheid activist, Ellen Lambert, has passed away at the age of 78. Lambert was born in 1934 at Mount Frere in the Eastern Cape.

She joined the ANC in 1953 at the age of 19 and became one of the Freedom Charter volunteers. Lambert was the provincial secretary of the ANC Veterans League.

Recently she was part of a protest march to highlight the abuse women endure when they wear miniskirts. She was also instrumental in the formation of the United Democratic Front in the 1980's after the ANC was unbanned.

She helped set up ANC branches in Reiger Park, Actonville and Eldorado Park in Gauteng.  The ANC says it will miss her strength, discipline, bravery and selflessness.
