Over R35-million is expected to be injected into the economy of the city of Durban as it sets to host the Metro FM Music Awards at the Durban ICC on Saturday.
The awards ceremony will be accompanied by numerous parties and events.
The prestigious event returns to Durban for the fourth consecutive year and is themed- 'Legends don't stop, they ask what's next.'
Not only do the awards afford South African artists an opportunity to be recognised, they also encourage the public to participate in voting for their favourite musicians.
SABC spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago says the event will be a glamour filled, entertainment spectacular.
Ethekwini Municipality's Head of Durban Tourism Phillip Sithole says the awards and other events that accompany it create jobs.
“The events this year are bigger than last year. We've got two major events taking place in the townships which is part of promoting township tourism. Besides that there are parties that have been organised so we are very excited as the city be in partnership with Metro Fm Awards and we are looking forward to future events with the metro.”
