The State in the Eugene Terre'blanche murder trial today continues its fight to have confessions from the alleged killers admitted as evidence. The prosecution has launched a trial-within-a-trial as the defence disputes the confessions. Police witnesses involved in obtaining the confessions are being called to testify in the Circuit High Court in Ventersdorp, North West.

The Afrikaner Weerstandsbeweging leader was found bludgeoned to death on his farm in 2010. Two of his farmworkers are on trial for the murder.

Confessions are in dispute because the defence says the police did not follow the law in obtaining them

The confessions are in dispute because the defence says the police did not follow the law in obtaining them. Colonel Frans Jacobus says the teenager's mother was present during the confession or pointing out. He says he explained to the teenager what his rights were, including the right to remain silent and the right to a lawyer.

But Colonel Jacobus says the teenager said he did not want a lawyer at that stage. He says the teenager told him that he wanted to tell the truth, for his mother's sake. He says the teenager accused spoke confidently and came across as much older than he really was.
