All 24 accused in the KZN 26 cash-in-transit heist trial have been found guilty of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment by the Phongolo High Court in northern KwaZulu Natal.

In an extended court session that lasted well into the night, Judge Jan Combrink said the gang had a common purpose in their commission of the crime. He found them all guilty of the death of Thembinkosi Gumede, a security guard at one of the robbery points in northern KwaZulu Natal in 2006.

Judge Combrink also found 13 of the accused guilty of robbery with aggravating circumstances after being found in possession of illegal firearms and ammunition. He sentenced them to a further 15 years each on the charges.
