Rustenburg municipal chief whip Sheilah Mabale-Huma is scheduled to testify in the murder trial of former Mayor, Matthew Wolmarans, this morning. Wolmarans and his former bodyguard are on trial for the murder of councillor Moss Phakoe.
Phakoe, who was shot and killed at his home three years ago, exposed corruption documents to government. Yesterday, an inmate who was locked up with Wolmarans at the Mmakau police holding cells near Brits told the court that the former Mayor confessed to paying two hitmen to kill Phakoe.
The witness told the court that Wolmarans said he paid R80 000 to each of the hit men. Phakoe was killed in the driveway of his home in Rustenburg north on March 13, 2009, after putting up ANC posters for the national election.
He was found slumped over the steering wheel of his car and had two bullet wounds. The driver's window of the car was shattered. He was killed shortly after he handed in a report about corruption in the Rustenburg municipality.
