Embattled Basic Education director-general Bobby Soobrayan has again stressed that he will not resign. This follows a damning report by a Presidential task team into the Limpopo textbook crisis. The team has found Soobrayan indecisive and has recommended that the Public Service Commission should investigate him.
The D.G. has been criticised for his response to a letter from publishers reminding him that textbooks had not been ordered for Limpopo. Soobrayan has denied being indecisive saying a lack of funds has been hampering operations in his department.
NGO Section 27 has welcomed the report, while teachers' union SADTU's general-secretary Mugwena Maluleke says it's long overdue...
“As far as we are concerned it’s even long overdue because the learners have suffered through the long overdue delivery of textbooks and non-delivery of support materials to teachers.”
