A new forum, comprising of mining companies operating in Limpopo as well as the provincial government, has been launched in Polokwane.

The forum seeks to come up with ways of industrialising the province through manufacturing and increasing support for local businesses.

The provincial Economic Development Department says this is part of the resolutions stemming from a Mining Roundtable summit which took place last year.

Head of the Department Solly Kgopong says the long-term goal is to pave the way for a thriving manufacturing sector.

"The agenda of the Limpopo Mining Forum really is to ensure that we support economic growth activities in the province and it is based on the five pillars that we have just agreed on now which will be your industrialisation, skills development, business development, which links into procurement as well as the ability to ensure that we benefit the province."
