The curtain has come down on the career of one of the best cricketers of all time, Sachin Tendulkar. The cricketing genius' glittering 24-year career came to an end Saturday when India beat the West Indies by an innings and 126 runs on the third day of the second test.
For Tendulkar his career ended where it began 24 years ago, at his home ground, Wankhede.
For a memento the Indian maestro collected a stump and then made his way to the dressing room through a mobile guard of honour formed by his team mates. He returned later with his family to make a moving farewell speech.
“It’s hard to believe that that wonderful journey is coming to an end. My cricket career started when I was 11. The turning point of my career was when my brother took me to my coach. Cricket will always stay in my heart but you’ve had an immense contribution in my life so thank you very much.”
Tendulkar is the most prolific international run-scorer of all time. He notched up the most runs in tests and one-day internationals (ODI). His 51 test centuries and 49 ODI hundreds are also records.
