The Presidency has denied that former president Nelson Mandela has been discharged from hospital, contradicting earlier reports by international media on Saturday that he had returned home from the Medi-Clinic Heart Hospital in Pretoria.
The elderly statesman has been receiving treatment for a recurring lung condition for more than two months. The Presidency is expected to release a statement later on Saturday about Madiba's condition.
Last week, Presidential spokesperson, Mac Maharaj said Mandela remains in a critical but stable condition. The presidency statement said doctors were still working hard to improve his health and to keep him comfortable.
Maharaj said President Jacob Zuma urged South Africans to continue to pray for Madiba.
