Striking mineworkers are converging on Aquarius Mine outside Rustenburg in the North West following the killing of three of their members yesterday allegedly by mine security.
During clashes between mineworkers and security personnel three people were allegedly shot and killed.
Police say 15 people were also injured during the clashes, after disgruntled workers who had lost a case over their re-instatement, were protesting outside the mine gates. No one has been arrested.
Meanwhile, Johannesburg-listed shares of Aquarius Platinum tumbled more than 8% at the start of trade today after yesterday’s incident.
The company, which is also listed in London, said late yesterday that about 200 people, some of them armed, forced their way onto the mine property.
Shares in the company were down 8.08% at R4.55 by 0712 GMT, compared with a flat All-Share index.
