Volunteers across the country are
still doing good to honour International Mandela Day. Habitat for Humanity is
still working with volunteers to build 67 houses across South Africa.
Today, houses were handed over to 25 families
in Orange Farm, in partnership with the public broadcaster and the Nelson
Mandela Centre of memory.
Mandela Day is a day celebrated annually on July 18 – the former president, Nelson Mandela’s birthday and in honouring his contribution, people are urged to give of their time doing food to help others - a symbol of Madiba's 67-years of service to the country.
The project has been lauded for
assisting in providing scores of people with decent housing.
The country is battling an ever growing housing demand. An estimated 12 million people need decent shelter but, the hands and hearts that provided the houses for the needy have made a huge difference. Lives have changed by their act of kindness.
