The Mandela foundation’s Sello Hatang announced on Tuesday night that Amina Mohammed would deliver the lecture on the theme: Centering gender: reducing inequality through inclusion.

United Nations Deputy Secretary-General, Amina J Mohammed says she is honoured to be the one to deliver the 15th annual Nelson Mandela lecture on 25 November in Cape Town.

The Mandela foundation announced on Tuesday night that Mohammed would deliver the lecture on the theme: Centering gender: reducing inequality through inclusion.

"I’m truly honoured that I will be with you soon to deliver the 15th annual Nelson Mandela lecture. I am particularly pleased that you have chosen to focus this year on gender and reducing inequality through inclusion and sustainability. This issue is truly my passion,” says Mohammed.

She says Mandela was a true champion for women’s rights and he did not just do so in words, but followed by actions.

“As long as women are bound by poverty and as long they are looked down upon, human rights will lack substance,” says Mohammed.

Mohammed is from Nigeria, she has worked for three successive administrations in the country.
